The Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte invites you to the „Colloquium on Provenance and Collection Research XVI“ on „Wiedergutmachung and Provenance Research: Accessing and Comprehending the Paper Trail“ at 11.03.2026 from 12:45 am to 7:30 pm on site at Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte | Katharina-von-Bora-Str. 10, 80333 München (hall 242, II. floor) and online.

Since 1945, various laws and regulations have been enacted to compensate for Nazi injustices. The associated administrative procedures have resulted in extensive source material, which is now being intensively consulted by researchers investigating the confiscation of cultural property. Following on from the conference in Bayreuth in 2019 and the section at the Historians' Day 2023 in Leipzig, the colloquium aims to discuss how descendants, provenance researchers, and museums can benefit from the ongoing digitization of archival materials and what the historical compensation for property losses means for the present: What opportunities, problems, and challenges does this “documentary heritage” offer?
