Save the Date „The Future of Digital Provenance Research – Dreams and Realities“

What is the current situation between vision and feasibility of digital provenance research? The conference “The Future of Digital Provenance Research – Dreams and Realities” will offer a venue for critical reflection of current methods, technologies, and practical applications for digital support of provenance research. Interdisciplinary perspectives will converge and innovative approaches will become apparent to strengthen the knowledge transfer between research and practice. The opportunities and risks of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning will be considered, as will be ethical, legal, and political issues. Selected examples of case studies from institutional keepers of cultural heritage and experimental projects from student initiatives will illustrate practical approaches to dreams and realities.

The keynote ‘Navigating Uncertainty‘ in der historiographischen Praxis: Wie weiß ich, was ich (nicht) weiß, und wie rede ich darüber? by Professor Silke Schwandt (University of Bielefeld) will address how to deal with (methodical) uncertainties, based on examples from historiography – since digital history is essentially concerned with digital challenges for scholarly practice and knowledge transfer. How are our research and presentation practices changed by digital media and tools? New opportunities emerge in working with databases, visualisations, and knowledge graphs, while many questions (still) remain unsolved.
