Prof. Dr. Marcus Kenzler

Dr. Marcus Kenzler appointed honorary professor at the University of Oldenburg

Provenance researcher honoured for ten years of teaching

On 14 August 2024, Prof. Dr. Ralph Bruder, President of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, presented Dr. Marcus Kenzler with a certificate of appointment as honorary professor; Kenzler is provenance researcher who works at the Oldenburg State Museum for Art and Cultural History.

In this way the university is honouring Kenzler’s more than ten years of teaching at Faculty III Linguistics and Cultural Studies, as well as the outstanding scholarly work he has done in the field of provenance research. Since the summer semester of 2014, Kenzler has taught the theory and practice of the subject to master’s degree students as part of his teaching assignment for provenance research at the Institute of Material Culture. The fact that his position has been regularly renewed to this day reflects the high esteem in which his teaching is held.

Kenzler enriches the basic methodological knowledge imparted in seminars and tutorials with practical insights into his work at Oldenburg State Museum. The close interlinking of museum research and university teaching is something that the 52-year-old believes is especially important, since it enables students to carry out both independent research on collections at the State Museum and also conduct fundamental and contextual research in the regional holdings of the Lower Saxony State Archives.
