Optical Museum Jena publishes second volume of the series Technisches Kulturgut

Sandstein Verlag has published Provenienzforschung zu Handel und Entzug [Provenance Research on Trade and Confiscation].

The Optical Museum Jena (Deutsches Optisches Museum) has published the second volume in its series Technisches Kulturgut [Technical Cultural Property] entitled Provenienzforschung zu Handel und Entzug [Provenance Research on Trade and Confiscation]. The result of collaboration between various museums, the second volume is just over 320 pages in length and addresses various contexts of provenance research, ranging from European colonialism to new approaches to research into property looted during the Russian-Ukrainian War.

Research into the provenance of technical cultural artefacts is a new and distinct area of provenance research dedicated to the origins of objects which are of significance in connection with the history of technology, including the relevant dealer/collector networks and the circulation of the items concerned. In Volume 2, 16 researchers from Germany and Austria present their current findings on the trading and confiscation of technical cultural property.
