On the statement by the cultural institutions of Saxony-Anhalt
As a foundation under civil law based in Saxony-Anhalt, the German Lost Art Foundation expressly supports the clear joint statement issued by the cultural institutions of Saxony-Anhalt on 16 April 2026 opposing a nationalist-oriented cultural policy, as well as the position of the state government.
The statements formulated in the AfD Saxony-Anhalt government programme are directed against the work of the Foundation, but also against provenance research in Germany as a whole, and therefore affect above all the victims of persecution and extermination under National Socialism, of expropriations in the Soviet occupation zone and the GDR, and of violence and injustice in colonial contexts. Such a programme would fundamentally call into question a research-based culture of remembrance.
We therefore subscribe to the statement issued by the cultural institutions in our home state: “The freedom of art, the diversity of cultural forms of expression and a culture of remembrance grounded in democratic values remain indispensable.”
