More than 95 cultural institutions represented at the 4th International Provenance Research Day on 13 April

In­ter­na­tion­al Prove­nance Re­search Day is due to take place for the fourth time on 13 April 2022. So far, more than 95 cul­tur­al in­sti­tu­tions from Ger­many, France, the Nether­lands, Aus­tria, Switzer­land and the USA have reg­is­tered their par­tic­i­pa­tion, ac­cord­ing to the Ar­beit­skreis prove­nien­z­forschung (Prove­nance Re­search As­so­ci­a­tion).

This year, mu­se­ums, li­braries and oth­er col­lec­tion-hold­ing in­sti­tu­tions are once again of­fer­ing larg­er num­bers of in-per­son events. On­line for­mats con­tin­ue to be an in­te­gral part of the pro­gramme, how­ev­er. Many par­tic­i­pants/par­tic­i­pat­ing in­sti­tu­tions have de­vel­oped nov­el event for­mats so as to reach the widest pos­si­ble au­di­ence. This year, nu­mer­ous re­searchers from var­i­ous in­sti­tu­tions and ven­tures are al­so or­ga­niz­ing col­lab­o­ra­tive events.

Prove­nance Re­search Day takes place once a year on the sec­ond Wednes­day in April. It aims to demon­strate the so­cial and aca­dem­ic rel­e­vance of prove­nance re­search and pro­vide in­sights in­to its meth­ods to a broad au­di­ence. Found­ed in 2000, the Prove­nance Re­search As­so­ci­a­tion is an in­ter­na­tion­al net­work of schol­ars and ex­perts who con­duct re­search in­to the prove­nance and un­law­ful con­fis­ca­tion of cul­tur­al prop­er­ty.

The Ger­man Lost Art Foun­da­tion is al­so par­tic­i­pat­ing. The dig­i­tal event Dig­i­tal Re­search In­fras­truc­tures in Ger­many and Is­rael will take place on 13 April 2022, from 9 a.m. to ap­prox­i­mate­ly 3:30 p.m. (CET).
