Lecture series 'Provenienz: NRW' at the University of Bonn

In the course of the summer semester 2024, the Research Centre for Provenance Research, Art and Cultural Property Law (Forschungsstelle Provenienzforschung, Kunst- und Kulturgutschutzrecht – FPK) at the University of Bonn and the Coordination Centre for Provenance Research in North Rhine-Westphalia (KPF.NRW) are putting on the interdisciplinary lecture series Provenienz: NRW – Spotlights auf das Sammeln und den regionalen Kunsthandel [Provenance: NRW – spotlights on collecting and the regional art trade].

As part of the master’s degree programme “Provenance Research and the History of Collecting”, the lecture series explores the history and background to provenance research and the art market, looking at the institutions that were actively engaged in collecting activities and also the individuals involved creatively in art and culture in NRW. Project presentations by regional institutions and workshop reports will provide a broad overview of current research on hitherto little-known art dealers and networks of the historical art trade.

The highlight and conclusion of the series will be a panel discussion on 11 July 2024 (6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) at LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn which will focus on the highlights of the lecture series in the light of current issues, also with regard to the needs of provenance research at the interface with the art trade.

Unless otherwise communicated (https://www.khi.uni-bonn.de/), the lecture series will take place on Thursdays from 2.15 p.m. – 3.45 p.m. in Lecture Hall IX in the main university building (Residenzschloss). The individual presentations will also be broadcast via Zoom. See here for details.
