Save the Date: Virtual Autumn Conference of the German Lost Art Foundation from November 17 to 19, 2021
In November, the German Lost Art Foundation is holding its annual autumn conference. This year, the event will be dedicated to the often forgotten history underpinning the debate on the return of cultural goods and collections from colonial contexts. The conference examines the long history of resistance against colonial looting, and of demands for the return of cultural heritage. It also addresses early restitutions and discusses ethical issues related to the debate.
The conference, "The Long History of Claims for the Return of Cultural Heritage from Colonial Contexts," will be held from November 17-19, 2021 as a virtual conference in cooperation with the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and The Research Center for Material Culture of the National Museum of World Cultures, the Netherlands.
The conference program will be published on www.kulturgutverluste.de in September 2021. Registration will open at the same time and be possible via the conference website. While the number of attendants had to be limited to 300, the conference can also be followed via livestream and is thus completely open to the public. After the conference, an audio-visual event documentation including all presentations will also be available. Furthermore, the fourth volume of the Foundation’s publication series "Provenire" will be dedicated to the conference. Please note: Due to the international audience of the conference, its language will be English; German contributions will be translated.
We would be very pleased to welcome you as one of our conference participants. If you have any questions, please contact our colleague Stefanie Kobow on +49 391/727 763-23 or at conference@kulturgutverluste.de
