From 20 May, Frank­furt Uni­ver­si­ty Li­brary will present the in­ter­im re­sults of its prove­nance re­search project in the ex­hi­bi­tion Stolper­seit­en – NS-Raubgut in der Uni­ver­sitäts­bib­lio­thek Frank­furt am Main.

From 20 May, Frank­furt Uni­ver­si­ty Li­brary will present the in­ter­im re­sults of its prove­nance re­search project in the ex­hi­bi­tion Stolper­seit­en – NS-Raubgut in der Uni­ver­sitäts­bib­lio­thek Frank­furt am Main.

Through this project, the li­brary is sys­tem­at­i­cal­ly ded­i­cat­ing it­self to a search for Nazi-loot­ed prop­er­ty in its hold­ings for the first time, there­by ad­dress­ing a key is­sue rel­e­vant to its own in­sti­tu­tion­al his­to­ry.  The project is be­ing car­ried out by the Uni­ver­si­ty of Frank­furt and the Uni­ver­si­ty Li­brary and is fund­ed by the Ger­man Lost Art Foun­da­tion and the City of Frank­furt am Main.

The aim of the project and the ex­hi­bi­tion is to raise pub­lic aware­ness of the con­nec­tions be­tween the loot­ed books in the Uni­ver­si­ty Li­brary and the in­sti­tu­tions of the city of Frank­furt dur­ing the Nazi era. In ad­di­tion to trac­ing his­tor­i­cal de­vel­op­ments, the project al­so fo­cus­es on a num­ber of in­di­vid­u­al bi­ogra­phies. An­oth­er aim is to ex­am­ine the work­ing meth­ods and tools of prove­nance re­search as well as the prob­lems it in­volves.

The ex­hi­bi­tion at the Jo­hann Chris­tian Senck­en­berg Uni­ver­si­ty Li­brary can be vis­it­ed from 20 May to 28 Au­gust 2022, Tues­day to Sun­day, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
