Exhibition on Nazi-looted property in the Frankfurt University Library
From 20 May, Frankfurt University Library will present the interim results of its provenance research project in the exhibition Stolperseiten – NS-Raubgut in der Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt am Main.
Through this project, the library is systematically dedicating itself to a search for Nazi-looted property in its holdings for the first time, thereby addressing a key issue relevant to its own institutional history. The project is being carried out by the University of Frankfurt and the University Library and is funded by the German Lost Art Foundation and the City of Frankfurt am Main.
The aim of the project and the exhibition is to raise public awareness of the connections between the looted books in the University Library and the institutions of the city of Frankfurt during the Nazi era. In addition to tracing historical developments, the project also focuses on a number of individual biographies. Another aim is to examine the working methods and tools of provenance research as well as the problems it involves.
The exhibition at the Johann Christian Senckenberg University Library can be visited from 20 May to 28 August 2022, Tuesday to Sunday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
