Advanced training programme on provenance research enters its eighth round: registration open until 18 August

The next advanced training course in the field of provenance research at the Weiterbildungszentrum der Freien Universität Berlin (FU) will be held from 11 October to 15 December 2023 with the support of the German Lost Art Foundation.

Collection managers, curators, museologists, volunteers in all museum sectors, art trade employees, freelance provenance researchers, employees of museum associations and employees of collections can register until 18 August.

The certificate course in Berlin and Dresden is being offered for the eighth time. The programme has been continuously optimised in terms of the balance between theory and practice: half or all of the individual modules take place in museums where provenance research is conducted. In addition, exercises in which participants can apply what they have learned in practice form an integral part of the modules.

Once again, it has been possible to gain the services of established experts for the advanced training programme. They comprehensively convey all theoretical and practical knowledge and methods of provenance research relating to the different research contexts. Intense, practically oriented dialogue with specialists from museums and archives forms an essential part of the advanced training. The lecturers who introduce the topics and provide information about funding opportunities include not just Executive Chairman Prof. Dr. Gilbert Lupfer, but also Dr. Uwe Hartmann, Mathias Deinert and Cathleen Tasler (Department for Cultural Property Losses in Europe in the 20th century), as well as Dr. Larissa Förster, Dr. Jan Hüsgen and Sarah Fründt (Department for Cultural Goods and Collections from Colonial Contexts) of the German Lost Art Foundation.

Collaborative partnerships are maintained with the following institutions: Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin, Zentralarchiv der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin, Berlinische Galerie, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden.
