The art collections of the Berlin families Jacoby, Neumann, and Holländer were curated over a period of three generations. Marie Jacoby had received paintings from her parents, the banker Max Markus Neumann and his wife Anna. Together with her husband Johann Ludwig Jacoby, owner of a cotton factory, she collected historical clocks, miniatures, Japanese objects and paintings.
Marie and Ludwig Jacoby's daughter and son-in-law, Cäcilie and Dr. Ernst Holländer, also devoted themselves to building up an art collection. Cäcilie also acquired first and special editions of books.
The aim of the research project is to reconstruct the art collections of Johann Ludwig and Mary Jacoby and Ernst and Cäcilie Holländer in Berlin, to research the circumstances of their loss and to determine the whereabouts of the works of art.
