Description:

The development of the Galerie Heinemann online database was the first long-term project to systematically index collection holdings that was funded and completed by the Bureau for Provenance Research. The research platform (http://heinemann.gnm.de/de/willkommen.html ) was activated in July 2010.

The database is based on the business ledgers and card indexes of Munichs Galerie Heinemann (18721938), which are kept in the Deutsches Kunstarchiv (German Art Archive) at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nuremberg. It is furthermore based on the catalogs and photographs stored at the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich. These have been digitized, tagged with metadata and put online.

The Galerie Heinemann online database facilitates searches relating to the art market transactions of the Munich gallery, an important gallery of its time, with a focus on the period from 1890 to 1939. It makes information accessible on approximately 43,500 important paintings from all periods and on 13,000 persons and institutions associated with the acquisition or sale of these paintings.

Users can carry out a simple search in full text search mode or a combined, advanced search with selected search fields.

The project is part of the International Research Portal for Records Related to Nazi-Era Cultural Property, where it can be accessed via the following link:
